Tips for Your Screening

Make the most out of your viewing of Farming While Black with our helpful tips. Whether you're looking for advice on creating the best viewing experience or ensuring your community gets the most out of the film before, during, and after the screening, we’ve got you covered.

    • Promotion: Reach your audience using social media, your website, email campaigns, and word of mouth to spread the word. The Farming While Black Press Kit has access to posters, photos, and a film trailer for your use. Also consider inviting local groups to table their organizations in the lobby, and invite their co-horts. The more the merrier.

    • Panel Speakers: Inviting local Black farmers, members of the cast or crew, or a combination of all can significantly enhance the impact of your screening.

    • Technical Setup: For the best viewing experience, ensure your screening space is equipped with high-quality video and audio equipment, room-darkening shades, or the ability to turn off lights.

    • Welcome: Invite folks in and let them know the run of show, special guests in attendance for Q/A, snacks or drinks afterwards, etc. Engaging audiences after the screening is key.

    • Reminders: For an optimal viewing experience, ensure all devices are silenced, and close any windows or adjust lighting to enhance the focus on the screening

    • Interlude Ice-breaker tip: As the lights come up right after the screening and while you’re setting up for the panel discussion Q/A, have the moderator ask the audience to turn to a neighbor they don’t know and discuss their reaction to the film.

    • PanelDiscussion / QA: Understand your audience and anticipate which aspects of the film may resonate most with them. Prepare thoughtful questions in advance and be ready to guide the conversation—whether that means moving on if it stalls or diving deeper into engaging topics.

    • Call to Action Slide: If possible during the Q/A, project a slide with either the film’s information (provided on the film resource page) or one specific to the local panelists and community resources. QR codes are helpful.

    • Follow-Up: After a successful screening, continue engaging with your attendees. Send thank-you notes, share calls to action, and consider following up on meaningful discussions sparked during the event. Please share with us, and photos or written reactions to the event.
